Why shouldn’t where we do our private business still be a public awe-factor? Many either overlook the toilet or simply don’t know how to design it. It certainly doesn’t help either that Singapore bathrooms have similar layouts, colours, and styles, making it difficult to think outside the box. We feel you. And that’s why, here are some distinctive bathroom ideas for your next renovation.
What’s low-key?
Having a few eye-catching pieces in the bathroom is always a good idea. The lowered standee adds a touch of thoughtfulness & uniqueness to the space. It stands out against the tall mirror and waist level sink, adding additional depth to the space, which in turn makes the space look more spacious!
The key here is not to go overboard – 1 or 2 features just right. Any more and the place will have too much going on. No one likes chaos, right?

Fly high!
Opt for a mounted sink and holders for an elegant yet practical look. By exposing the wall under the sink, it gives the impression of space but doesn’t cost you any storage. The open shelving also makes the space less bulky and forces the best of us to keep things neater.
Nature triumphs.
Natural light makes any space look big, bright and brilliant. The problem is, HDB toilets have infamously small windows that resembles more of a ventilation shaft. So, treasure all the light you can get. Don’t make the mistake of blocking the light, instead, guide the light in and emphasise it by letting it shine on vital areas of the bathroom. ( It may just be your personal spotlight in bathroom concerts…)

The omniscient mirror on the wall
Apart from satisfying your vanity, mirrors have a special type of magic is making every space seem bigger. Don’t think mirrors can only be basic and flat. They can be of various shapes, size and shades. There are even mirrors with built-in storage that are useful for maximising space while hiding unsightly items such as bottle refills, toilet paper and toothpaste.
That heavenly soak.
We’re unsure where the assumption that only private housing has space for the indulgence of a built-in bathtub. I’m sure we’ve all awed at the scene in movies where the actor sinks into a steaming tub after a long day. We come bearing a solution now: consider a freestanding bathtub. While traditionally they tend to be oval, now you may choose to have a round or rectangular bathtub to match the style of your bathroom interior. This will further boost the image of the bathroom, making it look more elegant and modern. When combined with dark-coloured floor tiles or wooden flooring, it adds that extra touch of daintiness and dimension to the design.
